The Samahan ng Bagong Kabataan (SBK) in Iloilo eyes to erect a monument with eternal flame somewhat alike to the JFK Memorial in the United States, in honor of former President Corazon Aquino and other Filipina heroes.
The monument is to be known as the Freedom Tower with Eternal Flame for Freedom Regained; it aspires to remind the youth of the Filipinos relentless strife for freedom.
Industrialist Mike Plana of Zarraga, SBK national leader and survivor of the 1986 People Power revolution, will lead the drive for the construction of the Freedom Tower to be built in Sta. Barbara, Iloilo. Mayor Dennis Superficial endorsed the project.
SBK leaders, WVCST President Dr. Luis Sorolla, Regional Director David Bermudo of the Commission on Human Rights, Atty. Julius Elvas of the University of San Agustin, and businessman Joel Adrias of Injap Foundation will spearhead the project in Iloilo.
Philanthropist Margarita “Tingting” Cojuangco, wife of Presidential Uncle Peping Cojuangco, has assured staunch support to the project.
The Freedom Tower with its eternal flame will symbolize freedom from tyranny. The flame is seen to enliven the students and inspire them to hope for a better tomorrow.
