In a move to easily help Ilonggos to locate boarding houses within Iloilo City, information technology students of Western Institute of Technology (WIT) have created an application incorporating all accredited boarding houses in the metropolis.
They presented the project during the KAhublagan sa BArangay para sa LApnagon nga KAhandaan sa KAlamidad (KABALAKA) Tech meeting at City Hall October 23 as they sought inputs to further improve the app.
Dubbed as “Iloilo City Boarding House Finder,” the application will show a list of boarding houses with government-issued permits and certifications for safety and security of boarders.
“Iloilo City has been a center for education and employment for the neighboring provinces of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, and Guimaras, thus, students and employees seek abode in the city, making boarding houses an essential demand,” said K6 Gabiota, one of the app’s creators.

“The application will showcase the amenities, costs and reviews, thus eliminates long processes of searching ones desired place to rent, and unnecessary onsite visit for inquiries,” Gabiota explained.
The application will be turned over to City Government’s Boarding House Commission (BHC) to have a system that will help manage the data gathered from boarding house owners and operators including personal business information, certification and permit with its validity period, time of renewal, date of scheduled inspection, and violation made.
Gabiota said once the boarding house owners and operators have completely registered and passed BHC’s compliance, they will be added to the list in the app.
Boarding house owners and operators will be given with username and password to access their account which they can add information of their business such as photos and cost. Once they received a notification for renewal, they will be given one month to comply the requirement to retain their name on the list.

The application will be available to clients through web and mobile. The boarding houses’ costs, location, facilities, contact information will be available in the application. Ratings and comments are also available for clients’ reference.
Councilor Julie Grace Baronda said the application will be helpful for people from other provinces especially students who want to find boarding houses easily and without hassle.
Baronda said the City Government will take into consideration the students’ proposal and hoped that it will be implemented by December. [via Iloilo City PIO]
