Iloilo City Transportation Management and Traffic Regulation Office (TMTRO) will start a one-month traffic experimentation along Gen. Luna Street in the city proper on Wednesday, September 18 until October 17, 2013.
TMTRO chief, Engr. Jose Tengco said the rerouting in the city proper will affect part of the city’s school belt from the University of San Agustin, Iloilo Central Elementary School, Assumption College and St Paul’s University up to the Iloilo provincial capitol rotunda until Calle Real.
The traffic bottleneck is expected at the vicinity of the Arroyo Foundation fronting the provincial capitol while private vehicles are allowed in all two-way city streets.
Tengco said that left turns of PUJs are now prohibited at Gen Luna from the Infante flyover to the capitol area nor are they allowed to make a U-turn at the capitol.
The routes of public utility jeepneys cover the Villa PUJs passing Gen. Luna to turn right at Quezon St. and back at Valeria St. passing Delgado St up to Mabini St and out to the flyover. Baluarteand SM city proper jeepneys may pass Gen. Luna up to JM Basa St. but can not make a right turn in any of the streets.
Jaro Liko Tagbak PUJs from Bonifacio Drive to take Gen. Luna but turn right at Mabini St. up to Robinsons Place, while La Paz and Jaro Liko NFA PUJs from Bonifacio Drive to Gen. Luna and turn right at Jalandoni St to Rizal St up to JM Basa back to Bonifacio Drive.
Lapuz PUJs will have to pass fronting the capitol turn right at the Arroyo Fountain to JM Basa St and back to Valeria St turning right at Solis St up to the Muelle Loney to Lapuz area.
Tengco said that Iloilo city Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog is also watching the result of this traffic experimentation designed to decongest traffic at the Gen Luna portion fronting the schools. Source: Lydia Pendon.
