Indigent out-of-school youths (OSYs) and young adult residents of this city have additional options should they want to avail of the free technical and vocational courses made available by the local government through the Technical Institute of Iloilo City (TIIC).
The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) recently approved the offering of five new courses upon request of the TIIC. These are the Emergency Medical Certificate NC II, Housekeeping NC II, Welding NC I, Welding NC II and Driving NC II.
Committee on education chair Lady Julie Grace Baronda explained that the new courses were chosen after a thorough study on the demand of the industry as relayed to her by TIIC administrator Mathilde Treñas Octavio.
For instance, the housekeeping is meant for those who would like to be employed in high-end hotels and cruise ships, she said.
“Graduates of these courses are assured of jobs,” she said.
The Emergency Medical Certificate NC II and Housekeeping NC II will be offered at the Diamond Jubilee Hall while the rest will be at the TIIC-Molo campus.
Upon completion of the one-year course graduates will receive to certificates, one from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and another is the certificate of completion for the school. [via PNA]
