Iloilo Province has two new positive cases of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), both of them from the municipality of Tigbauan.
In a video posted on her official Facebook page on Saturday morning, Mayor Suzette Tenefrancia Alquisada confirmed that the additional patients with COVID-19 are from their town.
“These two are among five OFWs (overseas Filipino workers) who arrived last April 9, 2020. Because of our proactive move of imposing strict quarantine, we were able to prevent close contacts with their family and the community,” said Alquisada in Kinaray-a dialect.
Alquisada said that these two OFWs did not have any symptoms of the disease. The three other OFWs who were with them turned negative in the COVID-19 testing.
The town mayor assured that they are very careful in handling the patients.
“We implemented physical distancing and our frontliners were in full personal protective equipment (PPE) from the time when we fetched them and also upon taking care of them while in quarantine,” Alquisada added.
Iloilo Provincial Health Officer Dr. Patricia Grace Trabado earlier reported the two new cases in the province, but she did not divulge the town of these patients.
These additional cases bring the total COVID-19 positive in Iloilo to 18.
