Iloilo City Government received a P1-million worth of scholarship vouchers from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) for the various programs of the Technical Institute of Iloilo City (TIIC).
TESDA director general Joel Villanueva turned-over the check to Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog at the Iloilo Sports Complex Covered Gymnasium before the basketball game between Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Legends team and the Tesda Specialista players on April 15.
“We are lucky that TESDA chose Iloilo City as beneficiary of this program; this is a great help for our technical-vocational students,” Mabilog said.
The amount will be used for training materials, honorarium for personnel and equipment of TIIC.
“This can help 160 scholars from six competency courses we have, namely, Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical Installation and Maintenance, Construction Painting, Automotive, and Masonry which are all NC II accredited by TESDA,” said Maria Mathilde Octavio, TIIC Administrator.
The 160 scholarships are open for those who are 18 years old and above, must be a voter and a resident of Iloilo City.
TIIC has recently undergone a TESDA compliance audit which checks if the agency’s requirements were met such as updated materials and equipment, competent instructors, and adequate facilities used for trainings.
