Entrepreneurship is a common goal for many Filipinos. Some see it as a path towards financial security, others are eager to continue their family’s legacy, while many are driven by the sheer passion to share their ideas and talent to more people.
No matter the motivation, one thing is true: being a business owner is no easy feat. This is why Sun Life, the country’s No. 1 life insurance company, was inspired to create a video series that would put business owners on the spotlight and share their incredible success stories.
The first video, entitled Dreams, features Jennifer Sy-Flores, whose construction and events businesses were heavily impacted by the pandemic. As she turned to baking to destress, it also inspired her to build a bakeshop called Heavenly Desserts. The video gives a glimpse of her journey and the crucial role that her Sun Life advisor Chris Callejo plays in growing her business.
“Pagsubok”, the second video, is aptly titled as it puts the focus on how a critical illness can severely impact one’s business and personal goals. It tells the story of Matt Mallorca, who succeeded in upholding his business owner-father’s legacy, yet suffered a heart attack just as he was enjoying the fruits of his labor. Fortunately, his Sun Life advisor Karen Carreon previously helped him secure a health protection plan that helped him recover in more ways than one and sustain his business, Mallorca House of Rocks.
Finally, the third video, “Legacy,” gives a glimpse on long-standing businesses and how it can be sustained. It revolves around entrepreneur Melita Ramos of Cebu Super Products Corporation and Trigold Venture International Corporation. While her businesses are flourishing, she wants to make sure that it will be secure for more years to come. Her Sun Life advisor Jennifer Tan is helping her do exactly this, providing her with sound financial advice on estate planning, business succession, and more.
All three videos can be viewed on Sun Life’s Youtube channel at https://sunlife.co/BizClientStories.
“No matter what stage a business may be in, from start-up to maturity, there are always financial risks to look out for. Jennifer, Matt, and Melita all show that overcoming such challenges is possible, especially when you have a partner like a Sun Life advisor. We hope aspiring entrepreneurs find inspiration in their stories,” Sun Life Client Segments Marketing Head Cary Casipit said. “At Sun Life, we’re proud of the many success stories we’ve helped bring to life, and we look forward to doing the same for more Filipino business owners.”
