San Miguel Brewery Inc. (SMB) broke ground new production facility in Barangay Gua-an, Leganes, Iloilo on September 20.
SMC president and chief operating officer Ramon S. Ang led the ceremony together with Sen. Franklin Drilon; Mayor Jerry P. Treñas; Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr., Leganes Mayor Vicente Jaen II, and Gua-an Brgy. Captain Alberto Capajay Jr.
This is part of ongoing capacity expansion program to grow its core business, meet increased demand, and bring economic growth and jobs to key regions nationwide.
“We look forward to growing our presence in Visayas. This major development is an important part of San Miguel’s expansion in key regions,” Ang said.
“Our aim is to help our nation achieve its development goals by investing in emerging growth areas. With this investment, we hope to help accelerate the region’s overall growth and bring more jobs to our countrymen in the south,” he added.
SMB president Roberto N. Huang said: “This is a significant milestone for our company as we continue to pursue new growth opportunities. Over the long-term, this will allow us to address growing demand and maximize efficiencies throughout the supply chain.”
Completion is expected in about two years with an initial capacity of one million hectoliters.
SMB is the market leader in the beer industry, holding over 95% market share.
