SM City Iloilo employees once again volunteered for the annual Brigada Eskwela last May 24, 2019.
The mall’s department managers led their officers and staff, together with security and agency personnel at the Donato M. Pison Elementary School in Mandurriao district to extend assistance to the school.
They help clean the areas, move room fixtures to be fixed and painted a classroom so it will be suitable for learning to the students. The mall also donated paints and painting materials to be used in the school for the particular event.
It can be recalled that SM City Iloilo also extended assistance to the school years ago, and had the school’s faucets tiled and fixed as well as painted tables and chairs, and fixed and replaced broken door knobs of the classrooms.
It has been an annual thing for the mall to support the Brigada Eskwela program as it also extended assistance to other schools like the Nabitasan Elementary School years back among other projects that benefit students from public schools.
The SM Employee Volunteerism Program encourages employees to exercise their social responsibility and to be more involved with the community it serves.
This assistance reflects SM’s commitment to support educational institutions in any way, as fostered by its founder Henry Sy , Sr. who was referred by the Department of Education in a statement as “a valuable partner who invested in the education of the country’s future leaders and nation-builders.”
Mr. Henry Sy, Sr. believes that education is the best defense against poverty. SM Foundation provide college and technical-vocational scholarship grants as well as access to primary education through school buildings to help the youth achieve their dreams.
Indeed, making this legacy of Mr. Sy last, the culture of caring for others is imbibed in the minds of employees of SM City Iloilo, as they freely spare their time outside of their work schedules and work with a happy heart by sharing a part of themselves to the community, in their own little ways.
