More than 13,000 indigent senior citizens in Iloilo City will receive their first quarter social pension equivalent to P1,500 this month.
Some P19.7 million will be released for the payout by the City Government in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-6 from Feb. 15 to 23 in various districts.
“We are thankful to the national government for this social pension given to our indigent senior citizens who are not receiving any other pension, and have no permanent source of income or financial assistance from relatives. This will be a big help for them to meet their basic needs,” Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said.
The City Government also gives P1,000 per year to some 7,000 beneficiaries out of the local government fund.
City Social Welfare and Development Officer Teresa Gelogo said they have requested for more senior citizens to be included in the program.
The city gives out the social pension by third quarter as processing is done collectively, she added.
Social pension is monthly stipend of P500 to augment the daily subsistence and other medical needs of indigent senior citizens.
Beneficiaries receive their social pension on a quarterly basis pursuant to Department of Social Welfare and Development Memorandum Circular No. 16. (Iloilo City PIO)
