realme, the country’s top smartphone brand, came out swinging at the start of this year with the back-to-back launch of its two latest models in the number series: the realme 10 Pro+ 5G and realme Pro 10 5G!
These two new phones under the realme 10 Pro 5G series are upgrades to the very successful realme 10 which was launched barely three months ago. We got hold of the realme 10 Pro+ 5G, so here is our unboxing.
The realme 10 Pro+ 5G (RMX3686) comes in the brand’s signature yellow box showing the phone model and branding in the front and on its sides. The black back portion shows some of realme 10 Pro+ specifications: 120Hz Curved Vision Display, Dimensity 920 5G Chipset, 108MP ProLight Camera, 67W SuperVOOC Charger, and 5000mAh Battery.
The box also showed that the marketing demo unit realme sent to me is 8GB of RAM and 256GB of ROM. The company said that this variant will not be available in the Philippine market; they will launch the 8GB/128GB and 12GB/256GB variants instead.
The demo unit is in Dark Matter colorway, and it’s also available in Hyperspace Gold and Nebula Blue colors.
What’s inside the box?
The retail box contains the standard accessories: phone, charger, type A to type C USB data cable, safety and quick guides, sim ejector tool, and protective jelly case. Just like realme 10, it doesn’t come with headset anymore.
Design and Display
Just like what the brand told us, the focus of realme 10 Pro+ 5G really is its Display. It boasts of a 6.7” Curved AMOLED Display made with 0.65mm Double-Reinforced Glass with refresh rate of 120Hz. It has a 61° Precision Curvature which results to ultra thin bezels on top and the sides at only 1mm, and the chin being only 2.33mm. Actually this one has the thinnest chin yet of all the realme phones from the number series.
There’s also a center cut-out made for the 16MP front camera. Also, it’s interesting that realme opted for in-display fingerprint scanner rather than the usual sensor found the the right side of the frame together with the power button.
The display also houses a FHD+ Resolution at 2412×1080, a 100% DCI-P3 Color Gamut with a refresh rate of 120Hz, a touch sampling rate of 360Hz that can top out at 1260Hz, and a brightness that can peak up to 950 Nits.
These features make the display of realme 10 Pro+ 5g on the level of flagship phones; scrolling and navigating is smooth and seamless, color quality is very sharp and vivid. You won’t have problems watching and streaming even on the outside.
The Dark Matter colorway of the back panel made of plastic is on glittery matte finish which looks really great as it is less prone to fingerprint smudges. On top right are the two floating camera rings, one houses the dedicated 108MP camera and the 8MP-2MP lenses group in another ring with the led flash on the right. Down below is the realme branding.
On top of its frame, you can see three tiny holes for speaker and another for microphone; on the right side, the volume rocker and power button; and on the bottom, ejector pin will pull out the SIM tray for two nano-SIM cards, holes for microphone, USB type-C, and the speaker grill. realme did away with the 3.5mm audio jack and the micro-SD card support for this model.
Camera
The realme 10 Pro+ 5G has 4 cameras: a 16MP selfie camera in a center punch hole on the display we’ve mentioned, a 108MP + 8MP + 2M shooters at the rear group into 2 modules. According to realme, the 108MP ProLight Camera makes use of a Samsung HM6 Sensor for high-resolution shots and Nonapixel Plus Technology that allows pixel binning for improved image quality even in low-light situations. It also comes with an enhanced realme UI’s ProLight Imaging Technology with a new feature called HyperShot Imaging Architecture that optimizes the production of images.
The Camera software has Street Photography Mode 3.0 and new features such as One Shot, Super Group Portrait, and AI Video Tracking which can determine the main subject when taking videos.
For videos, the rear camera can shoot up to 4k resolution on 30fps frame rate. The 60fps rate is available up to 1080p resolution.
Internals
Under the hood, the realme 10 Pro+ 5G comes with MediaTek Dimensity 920 which is 5G-capable. It has enhanced RAM Expansion Technology and a Dynamic Ram Expansion (DRE) reaching up to a total of 8GB. It runs on an enhanced realme UI 4.0 based on Android 13 which promises better stability, power efficiency, as well as security.
The 67W SUPERVOOC Charger is capable of powering up its 5000mAh battery from 0 to 100 for under 50 minutes, realme claims.
Impressions
True to its tagline of #DisplayNewVision, you will really be impressed with realme 10 Pro+ 5G’s curved display which truly on a flagship level! The AMOLED display at 120hz refresh rate, FHD+ resolution, up to 1260Hz touch sampling rate, and up to 950 nits brightness on a super thin bezels and curved edges makes watching videos or playing games really immersive and a treat!
The in-display fingerprint sensor is nice, but I’m more into fingerprint scanner on the right side (usually doubling as power button) as this is a more natural setup when waking up the phone. Or I would prefer the in-display sensor a little bit higher
The device is also very slim, very light, and easy on the pocket. It has great design and build quality considering all its features and a large 5000mAh battery. I also like its matte finish on the back of the Dark Matter colorway as it looks very elegant and not susceptible to fingerprint smudges.
I’ve been using the phone and it’s camera the past few days, and I’m impressed with the shots that I’ve been getting especially from the 108MP lens. It’s great that realme added the 8-megapixel ultrawide sensor which was absent in realme 10. I also appreciate that the camera can now shoot up to 4K videos, but I still like shooting on 1080p on 60fps which has Ultra-Steady feature.
realme will be divulging more details about the phone and its pricing during the launch of realme 10 Pro Series 5G on February 14 at 12NN (PHT) which will be live streamed via the realme Official Facebook page.
Stay tuned as I will also do a full review of the realme 10 Pro+ 5G after the event.
