realme, the country’s leading smartphone brand for two years, has added two more aces in its number series, the realme 10 Pro 5G and realme 10 Pro+ 5G. These two models carry on with the brand’s “leap-forward” innovation in one key aspect of the smartphone lineup; this time, its the flagship-level display.
As the higher model, realme 10 Pro+ 5G has more glamour and oomph, and I’m glad that the brand sent its Dark Matter colorway for me to experience using it as my daily driver. Thus, we will be talking about it in this review. I previously did an unboxing and first impression article here: [https://www.iloilotoday.com/realme-10-pro-plus-5g-unboxing/]
Quickly, realme 10 Pro+ 5G (RMX3686) offers flagship-level 120Hz Curved AMOLED Display, a 108MP ProLight Camera and the powerful MediaTek Dimensity 920 5G. It also features a 5000mAh Battery with 67W SUPERVOOC Charge, 8GB RAM with up to 12GB Dynamic RAM Expansion and Hi-Res Certified Dual Stereo Speakers.
The realme 10 Pro+ 5G will be available in two color options: Hyperspace Gold and Dark Matter, and will come in two storage variants: 8GB+128GB and 12GB+256GB. Disclaimer: realme sent me the 8GB+256GB variant which will not be available in the Philippine market.
This is the best that realme has to offer in the midrange segment. Is it worth the price tag?
Design and Build
realme 10 Pro+ 5G really looks stunning out of the box, mainly because it is super slim body, curved front and back panels, and ultra-thin bezels!
In the front is realme’s first 120Hz Curved AMOLED Display which employs 61° Precision Curvature responsible for thin bezels on top and the sides at only 1mm, and the chin being only 2.33mm. It is also the slimmest realme phone at 7.78mm thin and weighs only 172.5 grams! Very light, and it easily slips into my pocket.
Handling is challenging without the jelly case though, as always the case for phones with slim and curve designs.
The curved back panel is made of plastic, and the Dark Matter colorway that I got looks clean and elegant. It is on matte finish which makes it great as it is not susceptible to fingerprint smudges. On top right are the two floating camera rings, one houses the dedicated 108MP camera and the 8MP-2MP lenses group in another ring with the led flash on the right. Down below is the realme branding.
The top frame is flat, where you can see three tiny holes for speaker and another for microphone; on the right side, the volume rocker and power button. The bottom part is also flat; ejector pin will pull out the SIM tray for two nano-SIM cards, holes for microphone, USB type-C, and the speaker grill. No more hole for 3.5mm audio jack and no micro-SD card support for this model.
Display
Again, the focus of realme 10 Pro+ is really on the display hence the #DisplayNewVision tag, and the brand went all in on this one for its finest midranger!
realme 10 Pro+ 5G boasts of a 6.7” Curved AMOLED Display on a 120Hz refresh rate, FHD+ Resolution at 2412×1080, a 100% DCI-P3 Color Gamut, touch sampling rate of 360Hz that can top out at 1260Hz, and a brightness that can peak up to 950 Nits. The display can also cater a high 2160Hz PWM Dimming, and has been awarded with two TUV Certifications: TÜV Rheinland Flicker Free Certification, and TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light Certification.
These specs make brightness and color quality excellent on realme 10 Pro+ 5G, and its really easy on the eyes even on extended usage. Add to that its very impressive super thin bezels at 1mm on top and sides, and 2.33mm at the chin, making watching movies and playing games an immersive experience indoors or outdoors!
On its UI, realme has HyperVision mode with options for Video Color Boost and Video HDR Boost, which improves the color gamut and brightness when playing HDR videos for better media viewing.
Since its curved, realme added X-touch anti-mistouch algorithm to avoid unintended actions especially on the sides of the display. Not on Corning Gorilla Glass screen protection but realme said that it is made with 0.65mm Double-Reinforced Glass which provides more anti-drop resistance.
I accidently dropped my unit a few times actually, and its protection really lived up to its billing as I don’t see any damage or even scratch on the phone.
The display also has center cut-out for the 16MP selfie camera on top and on-screen fingerprint sensor below. The camera is pretty fast in doing facial recognition for unlocking, same with fingerprint sensor. But I prefer for the latter on the sides (doubling as power button) as it is more ergonomic.
Cameras
Aside from the 16MP selfie camera on a center hole punch I mentioned, realme 10 Pro+ 5G sports triple cameras on two rings at the back: 108MP + 8MP + 2M shooters. Thankfully, the 8MP ultrawide camera which I frequently use during event coverage is back on this one (absent in realme 10 and 10 Pro 5G).
According to realme, the 108MP ProLight Camera makes use of a Samsung HM6 Sensor for high-resolution shots and Nonapixel Plus Technology that allows pixel binning for improved image quality even in low-light situations. It also comes with an enhanced realme UI’s ProLight Imaging Technology with a new feature called HyperShot Imaging Architecture that optimizes the production of images.
realme also brings in software optimizations from their realme GT Series into this Number Series lineup, consisting of the following; Image Fusion Engine, Quickshot Acceleration Engine, and Super Nightscape Engine.
With these optimizations, I find snaps from realme 10 Pro+ 5G pretty impressive on this midrange segment. By default, the rear camera shoots at 12MP with dedicated UI menu for the 108MP sensor. Images are sharp and adequately detailed, with good contrast and not oversaturated. With its AI mode on, it can capture vibrant night shots on fast shutter speed.
The 8MP ultrawide lens on this one is surprisingly better than most phones in the segment as it produces more detail and contrast, vibrant colors, and less noise compared to others.
The 16MP selfie camera takes softer images (which I like) with HDR capabilities and more features and filters.
The Camera software has Street Photography Mode 3.0 and new features such as One Shot, Super Group Portrait, and AI Video Tracking which can determine the main subject when taking videos.
For videos, the rear camera can shoot up to 4k resolution on 30fps frame rate. The 60fps rate is available up to 1080p resolution with Ultra-Steady stabilization option.
Software and Performance
The system of realme 10 Pro+ 5G is running on realme UI 4.0 based on Android 13, the first realme phone using the interface out of the box. This promises improvements on a lot of key aspects such as the design, interaction, fluidity and security.
realme UI 4.0 is clutter free and very smooth and fluid when it comes to navigation. It’s more intuitive with improved details and rich colors. It now has smart Always On Display (AOD) with more information and ability to control notifications and music playback such as Spotify. You may customized your AOD on wider selections to match your style.
It does come with some bloatwares but not as many as realme 10. Of course, you can easily uninstall those unwanted apps.
The phone also supports the enhanced RAM Expansion Technology and a Dynamic Ram Expansion (DRE) feature which lets you expand your smartphone’s RAM virtually by using the phone’s internal storage. It has default DRE of 4GB but may be dialed up to a total of 8GB.
realme 10 Pro+ 5G is equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 920 5G, a 6nm Octa-Core Processor with x2 ARM Cortex-A78 Cores that clock at up to 2.5GHz, x6 ARM Cortex-A55 Cores that clocks up to 2.0GHz and an Arm Mali-G68 MC4 GPU.
Using the realme 10 Pro+ for a few weeks, I can say that its performance in doing everyday tasks is really smooth and seamless. As expected, running apps and interactions are really fast. Multitasking is a breeze as I can switch app quickly, which is great for productivity.
Gamers would love realme 10 Pro+ 5G as it is capable of handling most of games in mid settings to high settings. For Mobile Legends, you can set it at High refresh rate and Ultra graphics. It can also handle LOL: Wild Rift in high frame rate of 60fps and PUBG Mobile at 40fps. For demanding games, it’s recommended to set it to mid settings for stable gaming experience.
Its large, immersive display, high refresh rate and touch sampling rate, capable chipset and GPU, plus a 5000mAh battery will get a nod from gamers.
realme 10 Pro+ 5G Benchmarks:
• AnTuTu v9 – 506,193
• AnTuTu v9 Storage – 45,468; Sequence Read – 1021.5 MB/s; Sequence Write – 839.7 MB/s
• PC Mark – 13,167 (Work 3.0)
• Geekbench 5 – 810 (Single-Core); 2,333 (Multi-Core)
Connectivity and Battery Life
realme 10 Pro+ 5G carries the usual connectivity features like 5G, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, a USB-C port, but said goodbye to the 3.5mm audio jack which personally like but not really a big deal.
For battery, the device gets an industry-standard large 5000mAh capable of 67W SuperVOOC fast charging. With regular use, it can last up to 1 day and half. Charging the phone is a breeze as it could get from 0 to 50% in 17 minutes, and to 100% in just 45 minutes.
realme 10 Pro+ also supports Optimized Night Charging by default which decelerates battery aging. It recharges 80% of your battery at night, and the last 20% is filled up just before you wake up.
My Take
realme 10 Pro+ 5G stayed true to its tagline of #DisplayNewVision as the brand really made the display impressive and flagship-level! Color quality, brightness and viewing angles are superb in its AMOLED display, and its super thin bezels on curved edges makes watching videos or playing games really immersive and a treat!
The higher refresh rate and touch sampling rate capabilities plus an upgrade on chipset make scrolling and navigation on realme 4.0 UI very smooth and seamless.
The device is also very slim, very light, and easy on the pocket. I also like its matte finish on the back of the Dark Matter colorway as it looks very elegant and not susceptible to fingerprint smudges.
The in-display fingerprint sensor is a nice feature, but it’s placed too low to my liking. I would’ve wanted it a little bit higher; I prefer the more ergonomic side-mounted sensor usually doubling as a power button.
Overall, realme 10 Pro+ really looks and feels premium, gives a flagship experience at the midrange segment, something that its fanbase and target market will truly appreciate.
