Palm Concepcion Power Corporation (PCPC) recently reaffirmed its dedication to sustainable practices and community engagement through a ceremonial tree planting event at the power plant’s coal yard. This initiative, which forms part of the company’s 8th anniversary celebrations, underscores PCPC’s dual commitment to environmental stewardship and innovation in renewable energy.
The anniversary theme, “Gener8 and Innov8 at 8,” reflects PCPC’s renewed focus on both enhancing its operational capacity and expanding its renewable energy portfolio. As part of the event, PCPC leaders gathered to celebrate the return of the coal-fired power plant to full operation (Gener8), which has been essential in providing a stable power supply to Iloilo and neighboring areas. But the event also marked a significant shift towards sustainable energy with the launch of a new solar facility (Innov8) within the plant complex, a clear indication of PCPC’s forward-looking energy strategy.
Jacinto Ray D. Ng III, PCPC’s Business Development Manager, highlighted the company’s evolving role in the energy sector: “At PCPC, we are proud to say that we are totally changing the narrative in the energy sector—from a typical power provider, we are now innovating and ensuring not just a brighter future, but a cleaner one for all with our solar projects.” The 5.1 MW solar power facility, now operational, is one of the initial steps toward an ambitious vision to expand solar energy production, with additional solar projects already in the planning stages.
PCPC’s President and CEO Nicandro Fucoy emphasized the strategic importance of renewable energy for both the company and the community. He added that the completion of the 5.1MW solar facility is just the beginning, with more solar projects planned in the coming years.
Beyond energy production, PCPC has also been proactive in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives that align with their environmental goals. The company has undertaken various community development projects, focusing on education, healthcare, and environmental protection for residents of Concepcion.
The PCPC power plant, a 135-megawatt coal-fired facility, remains a crucial energy provider in the Visayas. Its expansion into renewable energy highlights PCPC’s commitment to addressing climate change and supporting the nation’s energy transition. As demand for electricity continues to rise, the company’s balanced approach of combining reliable coal-based energy with growing renewable sources like solar is essential in maintaining a stable and sustainable power supply for the region.
