The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Central Office has approved the application of Iloilo City Government for the construction of pathway that will conform with the Central Business District (CBD) initiative.
Assistant City Planning and Development Officer Arch. Dolly Ann Zoluaga said the DBM approved the project which costs P16.5 million.
“We are developing since 2014 the civic center connecting the City Hall to Plaza Libertad, New Grandstand and Sunburst Park. One of the components of this is also the establishment of passage way to connect these components together for a seamless walking experience,” Zoluaga said.
The passageway covers the block of Plaza Libertad, City Hall, Department of Trade and Industry, Office of the Congressman, building Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP) Iloilo City, and new grandstand in Muelle Loney.
Zoluaga said the passageway will be covered and chairs will be set up to cater to public as waiting area.
“This pathway will improve the connectivity among government offices included in the civic center and shorten the time travel from one to another. At the same time, it will be easy for clients to transact business in the Central Business district walking through the Espalande and people will also feel secured,” Zoluaga added.
Construction will soon start following a bidding process.
The pathway is funded by DBM under President Rodrigo Duterte’s “Green, Green, Green” program.
It aims to make cities more livable and sustainable through developing public open spaces. It also seeks to help city governments establish forest parks, arboretum, and botanical gardens to improve the livability of urban areas through landscaping, turfing, and tree planting, and transform streetscape by installing eco-friendly street furniture, fixtures, and shading.
