The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) recently updated the terms of their Skills for Employment Scholarship Program (SESP) for its OFW members and their dependents.
The SESP is a short-term scholarship grant on technical-vocational or specialized training for OFW members that shall provide opportunities to member-OFWs and their dependents to build on or enhance their skills and capacities along various work sectors, with an end in view of scaling up their skills for better employment opportunities.

The said program has now extended the availment period of OWWA members and their dependents for up to six (6) months after the expiration of their membership coverage. In addition, the age limit for dependent-availees has been increased from twenty-one (21) to twenty-four (24) years old, provided that the said dependent is single.
The qualified scholar is entitled to a maximum of up to ₱14,500.00 financial assistance to cover his/her tuition fees regardless of the duration of the training program being taken.
However, if the tuition fee is more than the assistance being provided, the applicant shall shoulder the difference.

Mr. James Mendiola, the Officer-In-Charge of OWWA Regional Welfare Office 6, believes that the recent development would be essential in allowing the OFWs and their families to achieving their full productive potential.
“We are acknowledging that today’s local OFW communities need to be upgraded with the latest learning trends and technologies,” he said. “This is a a great way to enhance their skills to make them competitive in both the local and foreign labor markets.”
