The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) 6 is targeting to hold the groundbreaking of its PHP11.2 billion Jalaur River Multipurpose Project Phase II (JRMP II) by end of this month.
NIA regional director Gerardo Corsiga said that the bidding for the project is already finished. A technical evaluation was conducted on Wednesday.
“We have already submitted the result of the technical evaluation and request to give concurrence to start the project,” Corsiga said.
“The only left was the financial proposal that we are about to open,” he added.
If the groundbreaking will be realized this end of March, Corsiga assured that the physical construction of the project will immediately commence.
The contractor and designer of the project are all Koreans.

However, Corsiga said that there is also an option of providing provision for subcontract to the projects, which will allow hiring of Filipino workers.
Further, he said that election period will not hinder the construction of the project because JRMP II is a special project.
“We also requested exemption from the Commission on Elections (Comelec),” Corsiga said.
A memorandum of agreement signed between NIA, the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for security framework was already prepared.
“This is without militarizing the indigenous people in the area. This is just to ensure that the area is safe,” Corsiga further said. [via PNA]
