The Museo Iloilo is being eyed to be converted into an exhibition room to give way for local artists to display their works and innovations.
“We want to give our local artists a place where they could display their products and other art works”, said Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor, Sr. during the regular press conference with members of the Iloilo Capitol Press Corps (ICPC) on Thursday.
Defensor said this dream will be materialized, however, once the rehabilitation of old and abandoned Iloilo Rehabilitation Center (IRC) also besides the capitol ground is finished. The governor added that he already coordinated with the National Historical Commission (NHC) regarding his plan to restore the facility to its original design to retain its historic significance.
Once finished, Defensor said the old IRC will also be converted to a regional museum that could attract both local and foreign visitors.
“All the artifacts at the Museo Iloilo will be transferred to the new regional museum so that there would be enough space to display our cultural and historic artifacts”, he said.
The 868-square meter facility has been a house of inmates prior to the jail facility built in Brgy. Nanga, Pototan, Iloilo, some 30 kilometers away from Iloilo City.
Defensor said the regional museum will house artifacts from this province and other neighboring provinces of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental.(Source: PNA)
