Muntinlupa City benchmarks MORE Power underground cabling

Officials from Muntinlupa City recently visited Iloilo City to gain insights into the Hybrid Underground Distribution System (HUDS) project implemented by MORE Power along historic Calle Real. The visit was facilitated by the power distributor in partnership with the Iloilo City Planning and Development Office, with officials from both local governments coming together to share insights and best practices.

The discussions focused on the transformative projects that are reshaping Iloilo City, particularly the HUDS initiative. The project aims to modernize Iloilo’s infrastructure while preserving the city’s rich historical and cultural heritage.

Engr. Romar U. Dagupan, Assistant City Engineer of Muntinlupa, expressed admiration for the progress made in Iloilo City and highlighted the significance of the MORE Power’s HUDS project in addressing long-standing urban challenges.

“This is a model that other cities, including Muntinlupa, should aspire to achieve,” said Engr. Dagupan. “The unsightly overhead wires, including electrical and telecom lines, have long been a nuisance. Removing these eyesores will greatly enhance the city’s aesthetic appeal. This initiative is truly commendable, and we are eager to explore ways to replicate it in our own city.”

Engr. Dagupan also praised Iloilo City for its balanced approach to development, which integrates infrastructure improvements with environmental and heritage preservation.

“We are witnessing significant progress here,” he remarked. “Iloilo City is a dynamic urban center that is not only embracing modern development but is also committed to protecting its environment and preserving its heritage. Often, in the rush of progress, cities neglect these vital aspects. Iloilo City, however, has managed to harmonize growth with sustainability and cultural conservation, which makes it a model for other cities to follow.”

The benchmarking visit underscored the importance of innovative infrastructure projects that contribute to both urban modernization and the enhancement of a city’s historical character. Muntinlupa City officials left Iloilo with valuable insights that they hope will guide their own urban development efforts in the future.
