MORE Power strengthens ties with ILECO III through a friendly basketball game

MORE Power and ILECO III basketball game

On September 12, 2024, MORE Power received a warm reception from the employees of ILECO III during a visit to the 5th District of Iloilo. However, this encounter was not about power rates or distribution services—it was a display of camaraderie on the basketball court, where employees from both utilities faced off in a spirited yet friendly basketball game.

Leading their respective teams, MORE Power President and CEO Roel Castro and ILECO III General Manager Atty. James Balsomo, took part in the ceremonial jump ball to kick off the game. What followed was a competitive match, with MORE Power relying on perimeter shooting and a barrage of three-pointers, while ILECO III capitalized on their inside presence, utilizing their big men to dominate under the rim.

At halftime, the MORE Power cheer squad took center stage, engaging the audience with lively cheers and even participating in a friendly shooting competition against the ladies of ILECO III, adding a touch of fun and friendly rivalry to the event.

Despite MORE Power’s long-range shooting efforts, ILECO III defended their home court and emerged victorious, showcasing their strength on both offense and defense. The event, however, was more about building bridges than keeping score. As the game concluded, both teams and their employees gathered in a social event, celebrating the camaraderie that transcended the competition.

In his post-game remarks, Atty. Balsomo highlighted the importance of fostering good relationships between the public and private sectors. He praised MORE Power for its leadership in the energy sector, acknowledging its status as one of the largest and most influential power distributors in Panay.

“We are the smallest among electric cooperatives, serving 32 island barangays, which poses a strategic challenge. However, through consistent hard work, ILECO III has emerged as one of the most outstanding electric cooperatives in the Philippines,” said Atty. Balsomo.

Mr. Castro, on the other hand, emphasized that the friendship game symbolized more than just cooperation. It demonstrated the harmony that can exist between public and private entities in the power distribution industry.

“The public and private sectors can work hand-in-hand as partners in this industry’s rehabilitation. Even before the game began, we were all winners. This event is a first in the country, and we aim to show that there is no rivalry—we can, and should, work together as one,” Mr. Castro stated.

This friendly match stands as a testament to the growing collaboration between MORE Power and ILECO III, reinforcing the message that working together benefits not only the companies but also the communities they serve.
