In line with its promise to modernize the power distribution system in Iloilo City, MORE Electric and Power Corporation has fully energized its 10 megavolt-ampere (MVA) mobile substation at Megaworld township on Sunday morning, December 6.
The city’s first-ever mobile substation is the first major investment of MORE Power, as part of its 5-year modernization plan for the electricity distribution system of the metropolis.
MORE Power President and CEO Roel Castro was on hand when the 10 MVA mobile station was fully energized at exactly 10 AM of Sunday. Castro said during the inauguration last month that the new substation will give ‘breathing space’ to the 25-30 MVA Mandurriao substation whose usage has gone beyond safe levels.
“The new mobile 10MVA substation will increase the capacity of the Megaworld area, one of Iloilo’s fastest-growing areas, by 6-8 megawatts. Moreover, it will decongest one of the five substations whose usage has gone beyond safe levels. As a result, the Mandurriao substation should have fewer outages,” Castro said.
Megaworld Iloilo Business Park (IBP) will greatly benefit from this dedicated substation that will power the township which has increased power demand due to business process outsourcing (BPO) locators, hotels, mall, office and residential towers and others commercial establishments housed inside the 72-hectare property.
“This is a major welcome development to ensure the stability in the power supply of Iloilo Business Park. As we open more BPO companies in the township, we expect a continuing surge in the demand for 24/7 power for our office towers aside from the current requirements of the mall, hotels, and residential condominiums,” said Roland Tiongson, first vice president of Megaworld Premier Offices.
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas was appreciative of MORE Power’s modernization efforts for the city.
“We are grateful for MORE Power’s dedication to provide the best quality of service for the Ilonggos. Let us continue to be more understanding, and soon, Iloilo City will have the best supply of electricity for all,” Treñas said.
Aside from Megaworld substation, MORE Power is also looking to add two more substations to be installed in Diversion Road and Arevalo
district. Iloilo City’s sole power distributor will also upgrade the capacities of Jaro and Iloilo City Proper substations, as part of its 5-year development plan.
