The rainy season in the Philippines often brings a surge in dengue cases, creating a high demand for blood transfusions in hospitals across the country. In Iloilo City, hospitals and patients frequently rely on the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) for urgent blood supplies. However, the growing number of dengue patients has significantly depleted the PRC’s blood bank, prompting the need for partnerships with private institutions to maintain sufficient reserves.
MORE Power has stepped up in response, continuing its commitment to support the community through its annual blood donation drive, now in its fourth year. Employees and partners from MORE Power have actively contributed to the initiative, recognizing the importance of giving blood to save lives.
One of the participants, Arjohn Casten, shared his motivation for donating: “I believe a single blood donation can save lives, especially now that many people urgently need blood. Those of us who can donate should do so to help those in need.”
In addition to saving lives, regular blood donation has health benefits for donors, such as improving circulation and reducing the risk of blood clots and heart issues. As Christian Paul Caspillo, another MORE Power donor, explained: “Aside from helping others, it also benefits our own bodies because it renews our blood.”
For some, like Deo Amparado, donating blood has become a regular act of service: “I started donating last year, and now I donate every three months.”
The security department of MORE Power is among the most active groups in the initiative, with many of its members participating. Manuel Glen Sua Jr., President and Staff of MORE Power Security Agency, expressed their support: “We are fully supportive of MORE Power’s projects. Whatever the initiative is, we’re always here to contribute.”
This year marks the fourth anniversary of MORE Power’s blood donation drive, making it one of the Philippine Red Cross’ most reliable partners in the region. According to Dr. Jean Louise Corre of the Philippine Red Cross, the donations come at a crucial time. “Blood donations benefit both the donor and the patient. For donors, blood regenerates every three months, promoting good health. For patients, especially now with so many dengue cases, we’re facing a severe shortage of blood. Just one blood donation can help save up to three lives. So, if 10 people donate, we can assist 30 patients.”
MORE Power’s Gift of Life Project is part of its corporate social responsibility, showcasing the company’s dedication to serving the Ilonggo community beyond its core services.
Through initiatives like this, MORE Power continues to make a tangible difference, addressing critical needs in Iloilo City and contributing to the fight against dengue during these challenging times.
