MORE Power, COMELEC forge partnership to ensure reliable elections in Iloilo City

In a bid to safeguard the integrity of the upcoming elections, MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power) and the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) have formalized their collaboration through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), signed on April 7 at the MORE Power Corporate Office.

The partnership underscores a shared commitment to ensuring a smooth, reliable, and credible electoral process in Iloilo City. The MOA outlines the respective responsibilities of both parties in preparation for and during the election period.

Under the agreement, COMELEC will spearhead voter education campaigns, focusing on voter rights, election schedules, and promoting transparency and accountability throughout the electoral process.

MORE Power, meanwhile, is tasked with securing the reliability of the city’s power distribution system. This includes preventive maintenance, infrastructure inspections, and technical support to designated election centers.

“We know how important and sacred elections are,” said Roel Z. Castro, President and CEO of MORE Power. “We want to ensure that electricity before, during, and after the elections is of unquestionable quality and reliability.”

Castro emphasized that the power utility will undertake rigorous system checks to prevent any disruptions. “Everything within our control—from the breaker to the sub-transmission lines—will be ready. We do not want any issues to arise when people cast their votes.”

To bolster real-time response capabilities, MORE Power will also assign technical representatives to COMELEC offices on Election Day. “We want to be accessible and reachable at all times. Should a power issue occur, we want to be the first to respond swiftly,” Castro added.

COMELEC Regional Director Atty. Dennis Ausan welcomed the partnership, noting its long-term significance. “We take this partnership to heart. MORE Power’s assurance gives us the confidence we need to perform our mandate. This collaboration, which began three years ago, is a testament to our shared advocacy for credible elections.”

In addition, MORE Power will help COMELEC reach a wider audience by including election-related information leaflets in the monthly billing statements sent to over 100,000 consumers across Iloilo City.

Both parties expressed optimism that this proactive approach will contribute to a peaceful, transparent, and well-coordinated election process.
