MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power) continues to demonstrate its commitment to safety by partnering with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in intensifying fire prevention and emergency response efforts, especially during Fire Prevention Month.
Despite their daily workload of serving thousands of consumers, MORE Power took time to conduct its annual fire drill on March 28. The event not only engaged employees but also involved customers who were present during the simulation. The goal: to raise awareness on fire safety, ensure proper response during fire emergencies, and promote a culture of preparedness.
The power utility company has established its own firefighting and rescue teams composed of trained employees. These internal responders play a vital role in making sure safety protocols are followed and can be effectively applied both in the workplace and at home.
“Fire drills are necessary so everyone is aware of the proper evacuation process and safety protocols. The goal is to avoid injuries, and if there are any, to ensure immediate response and care,” said Chris Ian Jadulos, Community Relations Officer and designated Fire Chief of the drill.
BFP emphasizes that March consistently records the highest number of fire incidents due to the dry and hot weather conditions. This is why March has been designated as Fire Prevention Month.
“March has the highest number of fire calls across the country. The heat increases the risk, and often, fires start due to human negligence. That’s why we always say, ‘Ligtas ang may alam’—fire safety starts with each one of us,” said SF02 Jake Ronald Solis, Chief of the Fire Engine Company at Molo Fire Substation.
The collaboration between MORE Power and the BFP goes beyond internal drills. Just last week, MORE Power also participated in a firefighting simulation drill organized by the Iloilo Fire Federation. The training included hands-on sessions on fire suppression, the correct use of fire extinguishers, and emergency resourcefulness.
Employees were taught the TPASS method for fire extinguisher use—Twist the pin, Pull the pin, Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire, Squeeze the lever, and Sweep side to side—a practical skillset that can save lives in real fire situations.
“Through this training, our employees gained valuable experience and confidence in using fire safety tools. This aligns with our advocacy that safety is a shared responsibility,” said Engr. Jethon C. Villarias, Pollution Control and Safety Officer of MORE Power.
For MORE Power, safety is not just a company policy—it’s a cornerstone of their service to the community. Their partnership with the BFP reinforces a joint mission to protect lives, property, and the city of Iloilo through education, preparation, and swift response.
