The City Population Office (CPO) was able to serve 77 mothers in different barangays in Iloilo City during the conduct of Usapan, a family development session.
A team from CPO went to barangays Veterans Village and Sto. Rosario in City Proper on Aug. 5; Gen. Hughes and Ortiz, also in City Proper, Aug. 6; and San Isidro, Jaro Aug. 10.
Usapan is a regular information, education and communication advocacy that aims to reach out to women of reproductive age with unmet needs for family planning services.
The activity also promotes responsible parenthood.
“We do this in the city’s 180 barangays all throughout the year to generate acceptance of family planning methods; and so far we have been successful in increasing our contraceptive prevalence rate,” City Population Program Officer III Rachel Lapascua said.
The small group discussion with mothers is part of CPO’s responsible parenthood and family planning (RPFP) program.
Lapascua said it is important that parents, especially mothers, learn about parenting the right way.
Aside from mothers, CPO also holds an advocacy program for men called KATROPA (Kalalakihang Tapat sa Responsibilidad at Obligasyon sa Pamilya), which promotes men’s responsibility in gender and development and RPFP. (Iloilo City PIO | Photo By Iloilo City Population Office)
