Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog gave participants to the three-day Basic Tobacco Control Training Workshop a warm welcome during the opening ceremony on August 20.
“Iloilo is a city that prides itself of strong anti-smoking initiatives as we promote healthy lifestyle and well-being among our residents,” he said.
“The Anti-Smoking Ordinance and the back-to-back Red Orchid Award from the Department of Health are clear manifestations of how serious we are to make Iloilo City cigarette/tobacco smoking free,” the mayor added.
The training was organized by the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control Alliance Philippines (FCAP).
Participants and advocates came from select local government units all over the country.
The overall objective is to build a capacity of advocates in project priority regions and provide an environment where they can meet and form a Regional Tobacco Control Network (RTCN), said FCAP executive director Ma. Encarnita Blanco-Limpin in her letter to Mayor Jed.
“This activity is intended to facilitate information sharing on the basics of tobacco control, learn the best practices of national and local experiences, and help develop a general plan of action amongst advocates of the RTCN,” she wrote. Source: Iloilo City Government Facebook.
