An Ilonggo engineer will represent the Philippines in the annual World Road Congress in United Arab Emirates in October 2019.
Engr. Ray Adrian Macalalag, a civil engineer working at the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office VI, will be among the paper presenters in the upcoming XXVIth World Road Congress in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates on October 6-10, 2019.
His paper entitled, “Engineering Aspects of Policy and Governance in Road Safety in Western Visayas, The Philippines” was among those selected by the World Road Association (PIARC), the congress organizers, for the theme, “analytical methods for road safety program policy and investment decision making”.
The World Road Congress, which will be held in the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center, one of the most modern conference and exhibition centers in the world, is expecting 5,000 delegates and 40 transport ministers coming from 120 countries all over the world.
In addition to having his paper accepted for presentation in the congress, Macalalag is also nominated in the PIARC Prizes 2019 which is awarded to the most outstanding papers.
The World Road Association (PIARC) was established in 1909 as a non-profit organization and organizes the WRC every four years in different cities in the world. In line with its vision to be the world leader in the exchange of knowledge on roads and road transport policy and practices within the context of integrated, sustainable transport.
As of December 2017, the Association counts 121 national member governments from all over the world, including two-thirds from low and middle-income countries, and more than 2,000 members from industry, administration or academia as well as individuals.
Engr. Macalalag is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of San Agustin and has recently completed his Master of Engineering degree from Western Institute of Technology. He is currently assigned at the Planning and Design Division of the DPWH Regional Office VI and he specializes in highway safety, planning, and road inventory.
