This was announced by Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog on his official Facebook page, adding that the first solar boat in the Philippines for the Iloilo River Cruise can accommodate 40 passengers at a time.
Mabilog was on-board the solar boat on it’s ceremonial maiden cruise on Friday together with officers of 1Meal Foundation, the donor of vessel. Department of Environment and Natural Resources will add another one to cater more passengers.
Ilonggos here and abroad were excited to hear this development, something most of them have envisioned for the city. Here are some of the comments from social network:

Hernane Cortado: “This what was I envisioned before and finally a reality! Mabuhay ka Mayor for heeding us!”
Rembelle Berlin Piodena-Hormillosa: “Ay this is soooo nice! I’ve been dreaming of having our own river cruise just like in Singapore. And our river is more better than theirs. Hehehe. Just saying.”
Halley Alcarde: “Another way of enhancing the power of solar energy. Few years from now if we are going to be united in our pursuit to tap our available renewable energy, we will soon wake up that we are no longer dependent on our fossil energy. Congratz Mayor for this bold initiative. We are fully supportive on this.”
Iloilo River Cruise will be one of the tourist attractions the city will offer as it hosts two ministerial meetings of APEC Summit next year.
