Members of the Iloilo media and bloggers have committed to support the practice of organic farming in the province of Iloilo.
Sixteen members of the media and bloggers signed a pledge of commitment during the Orientation on Organic Agriculture for the 4th Estate organized by the Panay Organic Producers Association (POPA) in cooperation with the Department of Agriculture (DA) 6.
In the commitment, they pledged to help promote the practice of organic farming in the province, patronize the products of organic farmers and support the agricultural markets and infrastructure that enable small farms to thrive.
They also committed to help conserve natural resources, including the atmosphere and climate by reducing erosion and pollution on air, soil, and water through responsible farming practices and to work with farmers and with the neighboring communities to create a more sustainable way of life.
Prior to the signing of the commitments, the media and bloggers were given the chance the tour around the 30-hectare organic farm in the Orchard Valley Inc., in the town of Pavia, Iloilo to orient them on how farmers grow their organic products and to further help them appreciate the importance of organic farming.
The organic farm was planted with different kinds of organic vegetables, fruits and also grow their organic poultry and livestock. [via PNA]
