Iloilo City’s fiscal stability benefits employees

Iloilo City’s prudent and disciplined financial governance has not only made it possible to address the needs of the Ilonggos but also stretch resources to incentivize the city’s workforce.

“Iloilo City has always prioritized fiscal responsibility and accountability. As we strive for continuous growth and development, we have ensured that every centavo is spent wisely, ensuring that all our employees are taken care of while delivering top-quality services to our people,” said Mayor Jerry Treñas.

Treñas signed the Allotment Release Orders for the Special Recognition Incentives (SRI) of regular city hall employees and Gratuity Pay for qualified Contract of Service and Job Order workers.

An appropriation of P40,960,000 under the Bonuses and Allowances was set for the P20,000 SRI, while P497,000 was approved under the Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses for the P7,000 gratuity pay.

These were sourced from the city government’s Supplemental Budget No. 5 for FY 2024 amounting to P103,486,009.31 approved by the Council during Friday’s Special Session.

“I requested the City Council to convene a special session to facilitate the timely approval of this benefit. We aim to ensure that our COS and JO employees, who work tirelessly to help make Iloilo City progressive and thriving, can celebrate the Christmas season with joy, gratitude, and peace of mind,” Treñas added.

Under Administrative Order No. 28 issued by Malacañang, employees who have rendered at least four months of service are entitled to receive up to P7,000 in gratuity pay—an increase from the P5,000 granted last year.

The local chief executive noted as an example of Iloilo City’s fiscal stability and oversight translating into efficient public service the turnaround shown by the Local Economic and Enterprise Office (LEEO).

From facing significant challenges such as operating at a deficit and with unpaid obligations, the office today is generating a surplus of over P15 million posted in November alone and a promising performance outlook for December.

On the other hand, the city government will also release the allowances intended for national government officials, including police officers, teachers, judges, prosecutors, clerks of court, personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Public Attorney’s Office (PAO), and the Registry of Deeds (ROD) in Iloilo City.

Treñas added he will continue to find ways to support these vital sectors, as he firmly believes that investing in education, public safety, and justice is investing in the future of Iloilo City.

“I am committed to ensuring that our city remains financially strong, and I will continue to ensure that we use our resources responsibly to benefit all Ilonggos. The achievements of our fiscal management are clear, and we will continue to work hard to improve the lives of our people, now and in the future,” the city mayor said. (Pearl Socias/Iloilo City PIO)
