Iloilo City Government has been chosen as national finalist in Kabalikat Awards of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) after being declared as winner in the whole Western Visayas.
Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog stressed being the regional winner and making it to the national level is a testament of the city’s successful endeavors in promoting and strengthening technical-vocational (tech-voc) education and training through the Technical Institute of Iloilo City (TIIC).
TIIC, duly accredited by TESDA, offers free courses on tech-voc education and training to underprivileged but skilled Ilonggos, some of them are already working abroad.
TESDA gives due recognition to the agency’s outstanding partners in the promotion and enhancement of technical vocational education and training (TVET) in the country.
The Local Government Unit (LGU) Partner category of Kabalikat Awards cited an LGU which provided exemplary support and cooperation with TESDA in various TVET activities translated to programs/projects related to workforce development such as training and assessment scholarships; donations; provision of technical assistance in the TESDA Provincial or Regional Technical Education and Skills Development Committees; skills competition; and standards/curriculum development, among others.
The award is conferred to outstanding LGUs as well as institutions, private firms and companies, and legislative partners because of their good practices and contribution in the promotion and development of Filipino skilled workers.
TESDA recognizes those that have put a stake on technical vocational education, and made lives better for many, said Secretary Joel Villanueva.
The winners will receive their award August 23 in Manila during the agency’s anniversary celebration. Press release from Iloilo City Government.
