Iloilo City is capping the year with big achievements after garnering top prizes in the Excellence in Local Governance (EXCELL) 2012 Awards of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
The city government won five trophies during the DILG’s recently concluded Pagdayaw 2012 awarding ceremony.
“These awards simply show how governance is run in the city – well-managed, transparent and innovative – leading to our continued progress and development,” Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog said.
Iloilo City was declared as Western Visayas’ Best Performing City, along with recognitions for Excellence in Administrative Governance (champion), Excellence in Valuing Fundamentals of Good Governance (champion), Excellence in Social Governance (champion), and Excellence in Environmental Governance (first runner-up).
A total of P50,000 cash prize was received by the mayor for the various awards during the ceremony.
Last year, Iloilo City also won Best in Administrative Governance, but it was only first runner-up in Social Services and second runner-up as Best Performing City in the whole region for the city category.
“We have significantly improved our performance, even as we look forward to next year when we can achieve excellence in all areas of governance through the unity and cooperation of all Ilonggos,” Mabilog stated.
The EXCELL Awards, a project of the DILG, recognizes outstanding cities that have best practices and innovations in governance, administration, social services, economic development, environmental management, and local legislation.
Prior to this, Iloilo City has also been recognized this year by the DILG through “Gawad Pamana ng Lahi” and was also given a Seal of Good Housekeeping for its laudable performance in all forms of public governance.
