The Iloilo City Government is putting up an initial six traffic lights in 6 busy road junctions with two already installed and working along Mabini-Ledesma street and Mabini-Gen Luna street as free samples of a business corporation along with digital timer and signages.
City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said the two traffic light installations with powerful light emitting diode (LED) are not included in the 2013 budget of P15 million intended for about 16 traffic light installations in busy street intersections in the whole city.
The other four traffic lights installations are to be completed before the Dinagyang Festival in the fourth week of January 2014 and these will be funded from the P15 million which was originally intended for the construction of a fountain inside the Plaza Libertad, the city mayor said.
The areas to be installed are along the University of the Philippines Visayas and along Delgado street in the city proper and at the busy La Paz intersection and at Jaro Plaza area.
Mabilog said the traffic lights will be equipped further with a close circuit television camera (CCTV) to enhance road safety and deter any road crimes. By 2014, all the planned city traffic lights installations will be completed, the city mayor added.
