For the first time, Iloilo City will host the Jr. National Basketball Association (NBA)/ Jr. Women (WNBA) Regional Selection Camp at Ateneo de Iloilo Gymnasium in Brgy. San Rafael, Mandurriao on March 15-16.
The city is among the 7 cities selected to host this year’s regional camp aside from Davao, Puerto Princesa, Cebu, Surigao, Pampanga and Manila.
Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog said the selection is a manifestation of the city’s growing reputation as a sports tourism destination with active sporting events.
The organizers selected the city as a host because of strong basketball program, said Rommel Castro, head of youth and sports development division.
The basketball clinic is open for students and out of school youth aged 10-14 years old.
The top 40 boys and 20 girls will be selected for the two-day training.
There will be 10 personnel of NBA Asia who will share their talent and skills to the participants.
Only 8 boys and 4 girls will qualify for the national selection set on April 25-27.
Meanwhile, the Alaska Gatas Republic of Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) will also conduct a 1-day free basketball clinic in Ateneo de Iloilo Gymnasium on March 1.
