Iloilo city government will pay appropriate honors to an Ilongga educator who garnered a spot in the top 10 of this year’s Metrobank Foundation Search for Outstanding Teachers.
Dr. Hilda Montaño, an associate professor of the West Visayas State University (WVSU), was one of the two winners in the higher education category of the prestigious search.
She joins the ranks of more than 300 outstanding teachers who have been recognized by the Metrobank Foundation since 1984.
Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog said Montaño will be esteemed by the city government for her feat, bringing pride not only to WVSU but Iloilo City in general.
“She showed the perfect example of dedication and love for her work, especially in raising the level of teaching and giving quality education to Ilonggo youth,” he said.
Montaño is the 10th awardee from Iloilo City and the second from WVSU since the search was launched 28 years ago.
She received her gold medallion, plaque and cash prize together with the other outstanding teachers during the celebration of Metrobank’s 50th anniversary Sept. 5.
A total of 284 teachers nationwide were nominated this year, but only the top 10 were chosen after rigorous screening and selection process.
The Search pays tribute to the teaching profession, recognizing those who have admirable competence, remarkable dedication to their work, and effective educational leadership, including their various community involvements.
