Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), in coordination with Iloilo City Government, has started distributing the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) grant worth P6,000 to qualified households in the metropolis.
Beneficiaries of two barangays in Iloilo City were the first to receive the SAP fund on Friday, April 17.
A total of 376 beneficiaries of Brgy. Punong in Lapuz district and 77 in Magsaysay, City Proper each received P6,000 social amelioration.
Ms. Terry Gelogo of City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) said that these two villages were the first to submit a ‘clean list’ of beneficiaries.
Representatives of CSWDO and DSWD distributed the SAP grants in the barangays. Beneficiaries were asked to present copies of their social amelioration cards, identification cards (if available) or barangay certification.
They were also made to sign a payroll and have their pictures taken as proof that they receive their cash grants.
In a press conference on Friday, Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said that other Iloilo City barangays will proceed with the distribution in the next few days once they are done with validation and submission of their lists of beneficiaries.
“We already have the funds [from DSWD], at least for one month. We will proceed immediately,” Treñas said.
Treñas added that he will find a way to give cash assistance to those who are not covered by SAP.
“Yes, we have funds. We have P100 million under cash for work which we can use for those not covered by DSWD,” said Treñas. “Of course, we cannot give the same amount DSWD is giving but I assure that they will get something.”
