Iloilo City Public Library officially opened at Sta. Filomena Day Care Center in Arevalo district from 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
Mayor Jerry Treñas initiated the establishment of district libraries to bring educational services closer to residents.
He thanked partners Sigma Alpha Epsilon Philippines – International; UP Sigma Rho Fraternity; Dr. Graciano Lopez Jaena Chapter Order of Demolay; and book donors for the support.
The facility is also equipped with computers and Wi-Fi connection for those who want to study, research, and review.
The temporary site will serve clients until a library in honor of Chief Justice Ramon Avanceña will soon be constructed at Arevalo Plaza.
Storytelling with kids
Treñas was the storyteller during the launching of the Sta. Filomena Library. He read A Day Out by Claire Llewellyn, one of the donated books by the Sigma Rho Fraternity and Graciano Lopez Jaena Demolay,
“Sparking a session such as storytelling with our children promotes literacy, reading, brain development, and imagination. A Day Out by Claire Llewellyn, I had the chance to read this book to our young visitors during the launching of one of our District Library at Sta. Filomena earlier,” Treñas said.
“Sa ila lamharon nga edad, importante ang pag bulig naton sa ila sa pagpamuklat sa insakto nga dalan padulong sa maayo nga buwas damlag,” he added.
