The city of Iloilo welcomes guests and stakeholders to the 4th Tourism Human Resource Congress which will open on Monday, September 25 at Grand Xing Imperial Hotel, in Iloilo City.
Organized by the Tourism Industry Board Foundation, Inc. (TIBFI) and in partnership with the Department of Tourism (DoT) and Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA), The 4th Tourism HR Congress will feature talks from experts on how management practices in human resources (HR) influence customer experiences in order to achieve sustainable outcomes.
TESDA Deputy Director General Atty. Diosdado O. Padilla will deliver the keynote address at the three-day affair, which will see experts and speakers discussing issues that pertain to updating and improving knowledge and skills in global practices and enhance the level of service provided by local companies in the tourism industry.
Among the experts who will present issues and solutions are: Tourism Undersecretary Alma Rodriguez on “The National Tourism Development Plan 2017-2022 and the Role of HR;” Ed Vitug, general manager of The Bayleaf Hotel, on “On-the-job training and immersion program: Lessons Learned;” Ma. Susan P. Dela Rama, executive officer of the TESDA certification office, on “Updates on the ASEAN MRA for Tourism Professionals: Assessment and Certification”; Narzalina Lim, former Tourism Secretary and president of Asia Pacific Projects Inc. on “Upgrading Skills of Teachers and Trainers Across all Levels”; and Velma Jane Lao, local economic and investment promotions officer of the Iloilo provincial government, on “Promoting Inclusivity in HRD.”

Panel discussions will also be featured. Dr. Jerry Lego, head of the school governance and operations division at Department of Education (DepEd) Iloilo, Fe Vasquez of Grand Hotel, and Salvacion Jean E. Osian of Hotel del Rio will be panelists in a discussion on “Senior High School Students in the Tourism Industry, their Employability and Perception of the Industry.” Atty. Arnie de Vera of Sentra Legal Counsel and director of Department of Labor And Employment (DOLE) Bureau of Labor Relations and Atty. Benjo Santos Benavidez will lead the panel discussion on “Relevance/Prevalence of Contractualization in the Tourism Industry”.
