Iloilo City has been asked to host the 2023 National Bike Day Awards and Recognition on November 26.
Mayor Jerry Treñas stressed the proposal boosts Iloilo City’s promotions as the country’s bike capital attracting more tourists and multiplier effects in terms of economic opportunities.
“The Department of Transportation (DOTr) would like to extend its sincere gratitude to the Iloilo City Government for its unwavering support in advancing Active Transportation, having been the two-time consecutive Gold Awardee in the 2021 and 2022 National Bike Day Awards. And most recently, contributing to the Knowledge Sharing Webinar as one of the resource speakers,” Undersecretary for Road Transport and Infrastructure Anneli Lontoc wrote Treñas.
“Your City’s active transport programs and initiatives serve as a model and inspiration for better and livable cities in the Philippines,” she added.
On behalf of the Interagency Technical Working Group for Active Transport, DOTr has offered the honor and prestige for Iloilo City Government to host this year’s awards.
“The opportunity will enable the City to showcase its active transport initiatives to inspire all LGUs nationwide to integrate Active Transportation policies, programs, and activities in their jurisdiction,” Lontoc said.
“With our back-to-back gold awards, we eagerly anticipate the chance to showcase our thriving sustainable initiatives, highlighting why our city stands as a premier bike-friendly destination,” Treñas said.
The metropolis is also a Galing Pook Awardee 2022 for its I-Bike Program Promoting the Development of the Iloilo City Bike Culture and two-time Gold Awardee for Most Bicycle-Friendly City by Mobility Awards. (Iloilo City PIO)
