The Iloilo City Government and University of Iloilo (UI)-Phinma signed October 13 a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the conduct of pilot testing for early flood monitoring and early warning device, and provide for disaster risk reduction management-related animation.
Mayor Jose Espinosa III and Councilor Lady Julie Grace Baronda signed the MOU on behalf of the City Government.
Espinosa said the UI-Phinma wanted to help the City Government improve and strengthen its disaster risk reduction management program.
“We welcome the initiatives from different sectors that will the city’s disaster risk reduction management and to assist in building a disaster-resilient city,” said Espinosa.
Under the MOU, the University will conduct a pilot test for the early flood monitoring and early warning device; develop and provide for animations that will tell stories about the responsibilities of every person in relation to disaster risk reduction management.
It will also allow the City Government to use official logo of UI, including its technology for press release, fact sheets, brochures and websites for promotion of activities covered under the MOU, provided that the use of the logo and name will be subject to each party’s branding guidelines, if applicable.
The City Government will be the lead agency in the formulation, implementation and evaluation of activities covered under the MOU; provide for the venue, physical set-up, costs, and other resources necessary for the standard completion of the activities covered under the MOU; and provide criteria for judging and contest mechanics.
