Iloilo City Government is ready to approve any application for face-to-face classes in elementary and high schools.
Mayor Jerry Treñas stressed the need to go back to face-to-face classes as education suffered setbacks due to Covid-19 pandemic.
“The online and modular lessons seem to don’t work very well. We need to help the children learn effectively,” he said.
City Schools Division Superintendent Ma. Luz M. de los Reyes said four private schools and eight public schools received their approved City Hall’s concurrence.
A total of 66 schools have already applied.
De los Reyes said all schools both public and private shall comply with the requirements of School Safety Assessment Tool (SSAT).
Those with compliance were recommended by the City Schools Division Superintendent to the Mayor for the approval of LGU concurrence relative to the opening of face-to-face classes.
De los Reyes said the City Government has been implementing projects and programs in preparation for eventual opening of face-to-face classes.
City Hall has been providing funds for the repair, construction of classrooms, handwashing facilities, isolation room, including school traffic management signages, purchase of necessary equipment and furniture for the limited face-to-face classes.
Initiatives also included facilitating the donations of partners in terms of health supplies, hygiene kits, and gadgets to schools and conducting series of webinars for the observance of minimum health protocols including regular disinfection of schools. (Iloilo City PIO)
