Iloilo City, a highly urbanized city in the Visayas, is a regional winner and a finalist in the national competition for prestigious Gawad Pamana ng Lahi Award of the Department of Interior and Local Government.
Iloilo City is also a regional winner of the Galing Pook Awards given by the private sector and nongovernment organizations based in Metro Manila. The city won as best in Public Private Partnership (PPP) for best practices of the local government units in good governance and Dinagyang Festival.
An evaluation team from the national office will visit Iloilo City next week to validate the documents and justify the entry for the national competition.
Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said that President Benigno Aquino III will present the awards in Malacañang before the end of this year. The Gawad Pamana ng Lahi grand champion will receive cash component prizes and projects worth more than P2 million and other citations and recognition from the national government.
The Galing Pook national champion will likewise, be cited in a distinctive recognition of the LGU.
Mabilog said the recognition is a clear manifestation of recognition of his administration and the city government’s efforts to push the city for development and attractive to investors and tourists.
Iloilo City is a constant regional finalist of both awards for the past two years. It has also become a back-to-back regional winner for Gawad Pamana ng Lahi this year.
