Iloilo City Government is eyeing the construction of condominium-type medium-rise housing units in Jaro district to accommodate informal settlers.
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas took to task the Iloilo City Urban Poor Affairs Office (ICUPAO) to oversee the proposed development.
“We will put up a housing project for medium-rise buildings consisting of 130 units in Uswag Subdivision in Barangay San Isidro, Jaro. The same will likewise be implemented in Uswag facility in Barangay Lanit,” Treñas said.
Medium-rise buildings are now considered practical because of limited lot area in already congested city, and costly properties driven by rising demand of real estate and private developers.
City Hall is also looking for three to five hectares in Lanit, Jaro and two hectares in Calumpang or Calaparan for prospective resettlement facilities.
“In our hope to give shelter to homeless Ilonggos, I have tasked the ICUPAO to look for areas suitable for relocation sites,” said Treñas. (Iloilo City PIO)
