Iloilo City Charter Day will be this August, and Iloilo Museum of Contemporary Arts (ILOMOCA) joins the celebration as it features Ilonggo creativity through workshops and other events.
It will be exciting times for our art enthusiasts, as there will be a month-full of workshops, concerts, and talks open to the public when they visit ILOMOCA in Casa de Emperador, Festive Walk Parade in Iloilo Business Park.
WHOLE MONTH ACTIVITIES
ILOMOCA will highlight Ilonggo creativity with workshops and sessions to be conducted by Ilonggo artists. Here is a list of the activities that will be held this month:
• August 3, 2019 – a Figure Drawing session will be held at The Box with artists and students learning to draw the human anatomy as well as gestures and movements.
• August 10, 2019 – workshop on Digital Drawing, a more recent medium. This workshop will be facilitated by Goldberg Villanueva, a freelance graphic artist, who will give useful tips, especially for beginners.
• August 17, 2019 – Wilfredo Calderon will teach the audience basic techniques in watercolor painting, also to beginners.
• August 21-24, 2019 – The celebration continues with music from the faculty of the first Jovita Fuentes and Jose Contreras Music Institute who will perform classical pieces. This event is in partnership with the University of San Agustin.
FREE ENTRANCE ON AUGUST 25, CHARTER DAY
On August 25, 2019, in celebration of the Iloilo City Charter Day, the entrance fee to the museum will be waived for Iloilo City residents who will present their IDs reflecting Iloilo City as their address. Visitors can go to ILOMOCA’s Gallery 1 home to artworks by artists with Ilonggo roots; a must-view for Ilonggos.
The month-long celebration will be concluded by a discussion on literature because August is also Buwan ng Wika. Literary scholars from Western Visayas will have a panel discussion entitled “Ang Panitikan ng Kanlurang Bisayas sa Panitikan ng Filipinas”. This discussion is part of ILOMOCA’s art education program for teachers called “Ay, Gali?”.
ILOMOCA has collaborated with the office of the Mayor Jerry P. Trenas, the Iloilo City Government, Iloilo City Tourism Office, Kasingkasing Press, University of San Agustin, Hubon Manunulat, Mr. Wilfredo Calderon, Mr. Goldberg Villanueva in organizing the series of workshops, sessions, and concerts.
