Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas handed over vital resources to the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) on Wednesday morning, January 8, 2025. The turnover ceremony, held in line with the ICPO’s New Year’s Call at the mayor’s office, included 80 Taurus T4 assault rifles, 250 Motorola batteries for serviceable radios, and three patrol vehicles.
The additional resources aim to enhance the operational efficiency of the ICPO in maintaining peace and order, ensuring public safety, and enabling rapid emergency response. These efforts are particularly significant as the city prepares for the influx of visitors during the highly anticipated Dinagyang Festival.
Commitment to Public Safety
During the event, Mayor Treñas reaffirmed his dedication to supporting the ICPO.
“We have given three out of the 16 patrol cars they requested as part of my commitment to the ICPO last year. For the remaining 13 patrol cars, we will do our best to deliver them by the second quarter of this year,” the mayor stated.
In addition to logistical support, the mayor recognized the exemplary performance of ICPO personnel in combating illegal drugs. Certificates of commendation were awarded to the following police stations:
- Iloilo City Police Station 1 for September and October
- Iloilo City Police Station 10 for November
- Iloilo City Police Station 2 for December
The City Drug Enforcement Unit and ICPO Director Colonel Kim Legada received praise for their leadership and contributions to keeping Iloilo City safe.
Ensuring a Secure Dinagyang Festival
With the Dinagyang Festival fast approaching, the enhanced resources are expected to bolster security measures and ensure a smooth celebration. The festival, which draws thousands of tourists annually, is a key event showcasing the city’s rich cultural heritage.
The city government’s continued investment in public safety underscores its commitment to a secure and vibrant Iloilo City for both residents and visitors.
