A national agency gave an award to the local government of Iloilo City for its efficient use of funds and resources at the height of COVID-19 crisis.
Mayor Jerry Trenas announced that the Iloilo City Government was recognized by Bureau of Local Government Finance (BLGF) for Best Fiscal Management Practice in responding to the pandemic.
Last October 2021, Mayor Jerry Treñas presented Iloilo City’s efficient allocation of resources during the BLGF’s webinar entitled “Launching of LGU Best Practices in Local Fiscal Management during COVID-19 Pandemic”. Iloilo City has been recognized by the Bureau of Local Government Finance as one of the LGUs in the country with best practices in efficient allocation of funds and resources in the time of COVID-19.
The national agency gave the award in a BLGF Stakeholders Recognition Program in Clark Freeport Zone, Mabalacat City, Pampanga.
“The Bureau of Local Government Finance has recognized Iloilo City as having the best fiscal management during a pandemic. That was a very inspiring award considering that we did our best to give assistance to everyone. Our good fiscal management has resulted to the highest ever surplus last year of almost 500M. We make sure that the funds of the city are always put to good use,” Treñas said during the flag ceremony last March 28.
The award highlighted the city’s Covid-19 response initiatives in terms of Provision of Assistance to Affected Households and Marginalized Sectors, Protecting the Health Care Workers and the Public from Covid-19, and Delivery of Education in the New Normal.
“We are very happy that we won the Best Fiscal Management Practice during the COVID-19 pandemic, in the area of Efficient Allocation of Funds and Resources. Madamu guid nga salamat sa City Treasurer’s Office sa inyo padayon nga serbisyo apisar sa ginaatubang naton nga mga pagtilaw kag paglab-ot sang akon handum para sa ciudad,” Treñas added.
