Moving forward with its pursuit of providing decent housing to the Ilonggos, the Iloilo City government has awarded the contract for the P2.539 billion Uswag Condominium Complex to the winning proponent.
Mayor Jerry Treñas signed the Notice of Award (NOA) on March 10 to the original proponent, EON Realty and Development Corporation.
This comes after no other bidder challenged the Ilonggo-grown property developer’s unsolicited proposal for the development of the socialized housing complex published by the city government on November 6, 2024.
“We want more (vertical housing) because our city has limited land. So it is more suitable for us,” Atty. Peter Jason Millare, head of the Iloilo City Local Housing Office (ICLHO), said.
The project is set to provide 1,677 housing units across 13 towers of 10-story condominium buildings located on a government-owned lot in Barangay San Isidro, Jaro.
Atty. Millare added that, based on the recent Memorandum Circular of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), the city was able to avail itself of the maximum land development cost by including certain amenities in the complex.
These include a multipurpose hall, basketball court, swimming pool, parks and playground, perimeter fence, guardhouse, and materials recovery facility.
To date, there are around 2,000 applicants for the housing.
“This will address the housing needs of our very large middle-income group,” the ICLHO head added.
Each unit will be sold to qualified beneficiaries at the newly DHSUD-approved price of P1.53 million for 24 square meters and P1.71 million for 27 square meters.
In April 2024, the Iloilo City Government entered into a Memorandum of Agreement for this project with DHSUD under its Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino (4PH) program, in collaboration with the Home Development Mutual Fund (Pag-IBIG).
