In its continuing response to a significant increase in dengue cases, the Iloilo City Government has enlisted the help of business sector and public schools through an anti-dengue campaign, on Monday, September 2.
This is to mobilize the aforementioned sectors in a concerted effort to control the dengue outbreak.
From January 1 to September 1, 2024, the city has recorded 1,064 dengue cases, with 57 currently active, 999 recoveries, and six fatalities due to dengue-related complications.
Dr. Jan Reygine Ansino-Hortinela, Medical Officer III of the Iloilo City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (ICESU), stressed the importance of a massive and simultaneous clean-up drive and misting operations to eliminate mosquito breeding sites.
“Early reporting of dengue cases is crucial to prevent further spread,” Dr. Ansino-Hortinela stressed.
The campaign also includes educating the public on preventive measures, encouraging early medical consultation, enhancing 5S strategies among public schools, and ensuring the availability of necessary medical supplies and support.
The City Health Office also discussed coordinating with various sectors to sustain the momentum of the clean-up and misting activities.
Last week, representatives from private schools and universities and the transport sector committed to support the city’s campaign and conduct their own response strategies to help curb the growing number of dengue cases. (Janelle Marie Belarde/PIO-GIP)
