Iloilo City was once again recognized as one of the cleanest urban centers and top tourist destinations in Southeast Asia!
ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) handed out the Clean Tourist City Award 2020-2022 to Iloilo in a ceremony held in Brunei last month. Department of Tourism (DOT) got the award on behalf of the Iloilo City Government.
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas received the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Awardee plaque from DOT regional director Atty. Helen Catalbas during Monday’s flag ceremony.
ASEAN Clean Tourist City Award 2020-2022 is given to cities that have endeavored to beautify public areas, improved the environment and sanitation, enhanced urban spaces and promoted their man-made and natural attractions.
“The said award is given to cities that have endeavored to beautify public areas, improved the environment and sanitation, enhanced urban spaces and promoted their man-made and natural attractions,” Treñas said. “We have done a lot of things to keep Iloilo City clean and beautiful, so we are very proud of this achievement.”
ASEAN Clean Tourist City Standard (ACTCS) Award aims to provide member states with a tool that will improve their tourism quality, increase marketing competitiveness but also improve the situation of residents and livelihood by alleviating poverty.
ACTCS assessed the cities based on seven indicators: 1. Environmental management, 2. Cleanliness, 3. Waste Management, 4. Awareness-Building about Environmental Protection and Cleanliness, 5. Green Spaces, 6. Health Safety, Urban Safety, and Security; and 7. Tourism Infrastructure and Facilities.(Iloilo City PIO)
