A group of Iloilo hotels, restaurants and resorts has joined the Charter Day celebration by holding food festival and vegetable market in support of local farmers and entrepreneurs.
Organized by Iloilo Hotels, Restaurants & Resorts Association (IHRRA), the food fest and weekend market which featured best Iloilo street foods and comfort dishes, fresh fruits and vegetables, and live band happened August 23-25 along Delgado Street, in front of Shopwise Amigo.
IHRRA is a group of 50 establishments that holds food festivals during big events in Iloilo City such as the Charter Day, Dinagyang, and Chinese New Year. It has been facilitating food fests in the city for 20 years.
The group assured that food establishments comply with sanitation and safety standards.
The chemical-free vegetables and other farm produce, meanwhile, came from the beneficiaries of the KOICA-PMC project, the Panay Island Upland Sustainable Rural Development Project (PIU-SRDP).
Now on its completion stage, PIU-SRDP is a five-year collaborative project between the Government of Korea through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Government of Philippines through the Department of Agriculture (DA). The said project is being implemented by the KOICA-Project Management Consultancy (PMC), the Hankyung National University, and the DA Regional Field Office VI.
The project focuses on the rural development for upland areas in Panay Island. It aims to enhance the quality of life of indigenous peoples in the upland communities thru community building, creation of income-generating projects and of a local food marketing system that links farmers directly to their market such as the IHRRA establishments.
