The master-planned Georgia by Vista Estates hosted the intense and thrilling Ultimate Frisbee action as teams compete for the Huck O Hulyo Year 12 tournament held at Savannah Football Field this July 8-9.
A total of eight teams from Manila, Iloilo, and around Panay Island showcased their ultimate frisbee skills and athleticism as they battled for the title in the 2-day competition.
Huck O Hulyo is Iloilo’s annual Ultimate Frisbee Invitational Tournament. It is a Philippine Flying Disc Association (PFDA) sanctioned event that highlights different teams around the region and country.
Ultimate Frisbee, which often is simply called ‘Ultimate’, combines elements of football and soccer while participants huck (or fling) a plastic disc up and down the field, looking to find their opponents’ end zone.
The game is participated by seven players on each team when on the field, while it is five against five when played on the beach.
Here are the eight teams that competed in the tournament: Fusion Ultimate (Iloilo), Boracay, Shake and Bake (Mixed), Bingawan Spirits (Bingawan, Iloilo), Disc Connected (Calinog, Iloilo), Chuables, Ringer Legends (Mixed), and Mandarayu (Metro Manila).
“There’s a balance of competitiveness and what we call ‘spirit of the game.’ This is the only sport that’s not refereed. It’s self-officiated without sacrificing the competitivenes. So you see the integrity, honesty and pagtutulungan ng mga players,” said Cess Trinidad, player of Fusion Iloilo and one of the organizers.
“It’s fun! The community, camaraderie, and the values you get in this sport will shape you in the field itself and in real life,” added Sheila Tupas, one of players and organizers.
